Learn Library Skills Online
Helios was the Sun God of Greek Mythology. If you want to be "enlightened" in our digital age, you should visit HeLIOS, a service of the Hemingway Library at Weber State University. HeLIOS can teach you the library literacy skills you need to be successful in school and in life. It is a series of easy self-directed lessons about finding and using information. These skills are very important in high school and critical in college. Why not get a head start while you are still in junior high?New District Video Streaming now Available
Video streaming on demand is now available to the students and teachers of the Davis School District. Safari Montage is now available in the library and in computer lab 3. Students can log in with their username and PIN number. To hear the videos, you may use your own ear buds or ask to borrow some headphones.Safari Montage can also be used from home if you have Broadband Internet. See this page for instructions.
Learn Math by Watching Videos
Have you ever wished you could pause and rewind your teachers' lectures? Would you like to be able to review (or preview) a teacher's lessons? The Khan Academy is a free web site that contains over 2100 videos and over 100 practice lessons. The site is especially good at teaching Mathematics. It has been added to the Links Menu. Give it a try! You'll probably learn something.New Biographies Available
People are interesting. That's why biographies are fun to read. Your library has recently added new biographies on Cesar Chavez, Charles Lindbergh, Elvis Presley, Henry Ford, J.K. Rowling, John Lennon, Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X, Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali, Rachel Carson, Stephanie Meyer, Tim Berners-Lee, and Will Smith.Do you know all of these people? One of them helped invent the World Wide Web, another helped found the modern environmental movement, a third one helped migrant farm workers receive better treatment. Check these books out and learn more about the people that helped create the world you live in.
Are You Looking in the Right Place?
Looking for useful information for school? Curious about the events of the day? Need to calculate something or compare two things to each other? Google is not the place to look. Google has many excellent tools: Gmail, Google docs, Google Calendar, Google Earth, and iGoogle, to name a few. But its basic search engine will give you too much data of unknown quality. Learn how to use the sites listed on our search menu instead. You'll be glad you did.SDJH Library Web Site Gets a New Look
The South Davis Junior High Library Web Site has migrated to a new server running Ubuntu Linux Server 10.4. Along with the new server, we have upgraded to the Zikula Content Management System (CMS) which has replaced the old PostNuke CMS we used to use. This new site will be under construction for a while so check back occasionally and see what has been added. Thanks for visiting.
